Guitar
Guitar Class is a one-semester course covering the basics of the instrument and an application of essential music fundamentals. Students will learn the basics of playing guitar at a beginning level through studying music notation and chord symbols. A brief history of the guitar along with a study of its respective musical styles will also be covered in this course. The main objective of this course is to create an enhanced appreciation for music through playing the guitar. Students will learn how to read music notation, chord symbols, and tablature. Students will also gain a better understanding of many different musical genres including folk, blues, rock and pop music.
Guitar 2
Guitar 2 will be a continuation of the foundation established in Guitar 1. Students will expand their knowledge base of chord progressions, continue to learn songs in the genre of folk, rock, pop and jazz and expand their understanding of the role and impact the guitar has had on music throughout history. Students in this class will have opportunities to perform in public in concert or informal settings. Students will expand knowledge base of chords, progressions and positions on the guitar, continue to expand on their ability to read music, and explore the composition of songs and how to market original songs on the Internet and through social media.
