Elements of Acting
Open to all interested students. No prior experience necessary. Students may elect to take this course for one semester, as a full year course and over multiple years. Students will be provided with a thorough understanding of the essence of theater and to perform on stage. A basis of how theater has developed and the importance of the audience/performer relationship will be presented providing an appreciation of what qualities are needed to make good theater and a good actor. Students will learn the proper way to warm-up and relax, participating in a wide variety of theater games that include concentration exercises, pantomime, improvisation, movement exercises and work on open scenes. This course will be of special importance to freshmen who are interested in auditioning for the Academy Acting Program or who want to pursue acting or theater arts for their future.
